Musings from a Cold Car

Recently I left my lights on when I parked in the morning before work. Here are my rantings written in the car that evening...

"I left my lights on when I parked my car before work. Needless to mention, the battery was dead when I tried to go home. Fuck!

As these things typically go, my cellphone was also dead so I headed into the local Office Despot to call BCAA. It was there I bought a notebook in which to do some ranting while I wait for the BCAA guys to come jumpstart my car. (Writing that phrase just got the Crüe song "Kickstart my heart" in my head. Woah. Yeah.)

If my phone wasn't dead I could call some people and get caught up on my correspondence. Ironically, I recently bought a car-charger for my phone which I did not use while driving to work this morning. It is sitting in my glove box taunting me.

I had been kind of happy that my last appointment of the evening cancelled tonight because it meant I could go home early. I plan to take Mum out for dinner to celebrate her newly acquired Canadian citizenship. Yet instead, I sit in my car on a fairly chilly February evening waiting for a kind soul with jumper cables - with an approximate ETA between 30-60 minutes from now. (Woah. Yeah.)

I just tried rocking the car back and forth a few times to see if I could get any momentum going for a rolling start the way they do in movies. Alas, I happen to be parked on one of the only flat surfaces in greated Vancouver and can't get enough movement going while still keeping my foot on the clutch to start.

Damn! It's getting really cold out here.

One of the few fortuitous things is that I happen to be parked under a street light so I can actually see to write as darkness descends around me. And it feels like hours but I think only 15 minutes have passed since I called them, so I've still got a long wait ahead of me. And I'm hungry. And I wish I'd bought some hot chocolate..."

At this point, the BCAA guy arrived, approximately 20 minutes after I phoned them and saving me from devolving fully into a self-pitying wank. Pretty nice timing. He got my car going, told me to leave it running for 45 minutes and sent me on my way. I charged my phone on the way home and called Mum from the driveway telling her to meet me in my car so I didn't have to turn it off and off we went for dinner. Another evening saved by a jumpstart (Woah. Yeah.)
