HTML Hell

There was a bit of excitement tonight in my web design world. Theovis, being helpful, pointed out that we have the resolution on our monitor set to 1024x768 (it makes everything small - best for video games), and many people don't. He suggested that I take a look at my page in 600x800 resolution and my heart nearly stopped when I saw it. It looked awful! HUGE buttons and about 4 words per line. I just about started to cry.

I hadn't even considered the resolution thing. I had forgotten how small everything initially looked on this monitor. It drove me crazy at first, but I got used to it. Used to it enough to totally forget that other people might not have their resolutions set the same as me.

After the initial panic, (sitting with my head in my hands. Melodramatic? Me?) I got to work resizing. It now made sense why the "normal size font" (3) looked so small. It is amazing how things seem really clear in hindsight. I changed the size of my buttons and my Vertigogirl logo. It took a while but wasn't too difficult. I went through all my documents changing fort sizes (I gotta learn how to use style sheets!) and making sure that they looked at least okay in the lower resolution. Theovis tried to console me by saying "It's okay, you are just practicing" but it made things so much worse. Yeah, I want to have lots of practice at having the crappiest looking page ever!

I think I have things under control now. It just shows how much I still have to learn...
