Kicking ass, taking names
I totally kick ass! It is true! And the ass stays kicked!
Okay, what is with the self-cheering squad? Today was the day I had to make up my mind about signing a contract to stay on at my clinic for another year. Things have improved there significantly this week, so I had a big decision to make. There is the stablility factor in staying where I am - client base, consistency etc., but our rent was supposed to be going up $10/month on top of all the crap we've had to deal with lately. Plus, everything in the treatment room that I share with Mr. Smug belongs to me - massage table, stool, stereo, CD's, art, clock etc. - and I do a whole lot of problem solving around the clinic when he isn't around. I concluded that I would sign on if Mr. Smug was willing to make some concessions.
So, I arrived, took Mr. Smug aside and said that I would like to stay. But since I have provided everything for the room and do so much extra work, not only did I NOT want to pay the increase in rent, but I wanted to pay $20 less than I paid over this past year. He agreed! I didn't even have to bring up the cost to him in replacing everything in the room if I left (2 of the other therapists gave notice on Thursday, I guess he didn't have much ground to bargain from).
Needless to say, I felt pretty good and very powerful all day. I am going to have to be more assertive more often. $30 bucks a month doesn't seem like a lot, but it is the principle of the thing. Yay me!
