That's total fiction!
I started a course in October at Langara College titled "Write Short, Short Fiction". I didn't quite know what I was getting myself into but it has been a really interesting class and I've met some cool people and have written some interesting stuff. For your reading pleasure, I'm including the stories I've written for the class - most of which are in first or second draft form. The format of "short, short" or "flash" fiction is usually under 300 words, which is quite a challenge. I haven't had a lot of experience writing straight-up fiction but it was worth a shot. Here goes...
The Carpet - In this first assignment, we were to write a story about a room we knew well from our childhood.
Let Me Explain - This assignment involved writing a dialogue between a famous person they admired and someone they knew. I think this one was the hardest out of all of them.
Untitled - We were instructed to evesdrop on a conversation and pick a few interesting lines to base our story on. I overheard my first line in the lunchroom at work and went with it. Apparently I forgot to title the story, though.
Fast Forward - Our major assignment for the class. We were instructed to write a story on pretty much anything.
The Call - This assignment was to write about a personal obsession. What can I say?
The Return - An exercise in setting - we were to write in detail about a place we know well.
Fast Forward - Take 2 - Our final assignment involved taking a story we'd already written, keeping the plot points we liked the most and completely re-writing it. This is what happened.
